On Wednesday, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia unveiled Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), a new Ghanaian-owned music streaming platform, at the De Icon Centre in East Legon, Accra.
Owned by Omni Strategies and backed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, GMX aims to enhance Ghana’s music industry and is expected to launch in January 2025.
During his speech, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer expressed confidence that GMX would uplift Ghana’s music sector. “Ghana Music Xperience is more than a streaming platform. It represents a commitment to preserving our culture, empowering our artists, and utilizing technology to drive economic growth in the creative arts,” he remarked.
“There are numerous music streaming platforms out there, but having one solely focused on Ghanaian music and musicians is a significant milestone in our nation’s digitalization journey,” stated Dr. Bawumia.
Ato Aduenu Tandoh, General Manager of Omni Strategies, highlighted the importance of teamwork to help GMX reach its full potential. “GMX is a product of our ‘Ghana First’ commitment,” he explained. “We’re calling on private sector players, investors, and creatives who believe in this vision to partner with us. Together, we can equip every artist with the tools and opportunities needed to flourish.”
