Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has strongly criticized the recent raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, describing it as unconstitutional and lacking legal justification.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, the Effutu MP questioned the legality of the operation, emphasizing that no law permitted such an action.

“There was no legal basis for the raid. It was an unconstitutional act, and such conduct does not send the right signals to the electorate,” he asserted.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at Cantonments while Mr. Ofori-Atta was in the United States for medical treatment. However, his wife and other relatives were reportedly at home when the raid occurred.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that approximately 12 individuals carried out the operation. Among them, five were in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and the rest in plain clothes.

In response, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga advised that Parliament was not the proper venue for seeking redress on the matter.

“The courts are the right place to determine if a person’s rights and property have been violated. In court, both parties will have the opportunity to present their cases,” Ayariga stated.

He, however, assured Parliament that he would provide further details regarding the raid as they became available.
