Accra Sports Stadium to Host Ghana vs. Chad World Cup Qualifier on March 17

Ghana’s crucial Matchday 5 fixture in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 17, 2025.

According to Joy Sports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided against proposing alternative venues for inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This follows CAF’s decision to revoke approval for both the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and the Cape Coast Stadium. The Baba Yara Stadium lost its certification in September 2024 due to “technical infractions, including an unsuitable playing surface.”

With this development, the Accra Sports Stadium remains Ghana’s only CAF and FIFA-approved venue for hosting Category A international matches.

The stadium’s return as the Black Stars’ home ground follows extensive refurbishment efforts. After Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Niger in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in November 2024, the venue was closed for three months for maintenance and upgrades.

During the closure, the National Sports Authority (NSA), in partnership with Green Grass Technology, worked to improve the pitch and upgrade essential facilities. Their swift intervention helped the stadium regain conditional approval from CAF for hosting international fixtures.

Now fully prepared, the Accra Sports Stadium is set to welcome the Black Stars and their supporters for this pivotal World Cup qualifying encounter against Chad.
