The Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Amos Blessing, has called on party supporters in the Ablekuma North Constituency to view members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as political adversaries rather than allies.

Speaking at an NDC vigil on February 9, Blessing stressed the need for vigilance and self-defence to protect their votes in the upcoming parliamentary election. He warned that any attempts to manipulate the results would be met with strong resistance.

His remarks came in response to a one-week ultimatum issued by Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, who demanded that the Electoral Commission (EC) declare the parliamentary results for the constituency. Annoh-Dompreh also threatened to disrupt parliamentary proceedings until the results were announced, escalating tensions between the two parties.

Blessing criticized the police for their lack of response to Annoh-Dompreh’s comments and suggested that if security forces failed to act, NDC members had the right to defend themselves. He maintained that no party should be allowed to intimidate the other or interfere with the democratic process.

He further warned that the NDC would take all necessary steps to secure victory in Ablekuma North and called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene decisively to maintain law and order.

“If tensions rise, the IGP will have no choice but to enforce the law against those who incite violence, regardless of their political affiliation,” he stated.

Blessing urged party members to remain steadfast and protect the integrity of the election process. He accused Annoh-Dompreh of encouraging NPP supporters to attack NDC members and, in response, called on his party to be prepared for self-defence.

“If you encounter an NPP member, recognize them as a political opponent and stay alert,” he declared, reflecting the heightened political tension in the constituency.
