The Water Research Commission (WRC) has planned to launch the Next Generation Sanitation (NGS) Knowledge Hub on September 3, 2024. It is through this new digital platform that the top innovators of waterless sanitation technology in Africa get enhancement.

The NGS Knowledge Hub will be devoted to promoting the inclusive and sustainable sanitation sector dealing with the water and sanitation challenges of the continent. They will also provide stakeholders with access to service providers, funding sources, and information on the new-generation closed-circuit sanitation systems. These systems are able to use the wastewater and convert it into fresh water that can used in the toilet flushing or for irrigation without the need to connect to the sewer, treatment plants, or constant electricity.

Including;

  • Tools for promoting and advocating NGS solutions
  • Policy briefs to support industrialization
  • A curated database of funding and technical assistance partners
  • Opportunities for partnerships and collaborations
  • Case studies and associated benefits
  • Insights from NGS data and research
  • A learning library and connections with a thriving NGS community

This is such a contribution from the WRC, which seems very eager to launch this Knowledge Hub to provide solution-oriented approaches to Africa’s WASH needs and promote the contribution to UN-SDGs and NDPs objectives. NGS solutions aim at complementarity with existing structures and infrastructures and are implemented in schools, industries, business conglomerates, governments, home builders, and municipalities. These systems meet certain standards that are provided by local Departments of Environmental Affairs, Water, and Sanitation.

This will be followed by a live expert panel around policies, research, and market access for new sanitation technologies in Africa in a virtual launch event.
