The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is preparing to roll out a nationwide initiative aimed at tackling anemia, with a particular focus on pregnant women and children.

The announcement was made during a dissemination meeting on universal nutrition and health coverage held in Kumasi. The initiative seeks to enhance maternal and child health through sustainable nutrition strategies.

Olivia Timpo, Deputy Director of Nutrition at GHS, voiced concerns over the persistent rise in anemia cases, despite ongoing health interventions. She highlighted the decline in exclusive breastfeeding rates as a contributing factor, emphasizing the urgent need for intensified public education on proper nutrition.

To address this challenge, GHS has established counseling units within health facilities to provide expert guidance on nutrition and anemia prevention.

Through this campaign, the service aims to increase awareness and promote healthier dietary practices, ultimately reducing anemia-related complications among at-risk populations.
