Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, assuring Ghanaians that the initiative will remain intact under the new administration.

Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, January 13, 2025, Dr. Forson emphasized that the Free SHS program is a cornerstone of the government’s educational agenda and will continue to be prioritized.

“Our position on Free SHS has been clearly articulated by President Mahama. He has assured the nation of its continuity, and I fully align with that stance. As a servant of the people, I am here to uphold this promise,” Dr. Forson stated.

He highlighted the significant impact of the policy on Ghana’s education system, calling it a transformative achievement that must be preserved. “Free SHS is a critical initiative that has expanded access to education and changed lives. It has come to stay,” he affirmed.

Addressing concerns about the country’s fiscal challenges, Dr. Forson reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening the program to ensure equitable access to quality education for all students.

His remarks underscored the importance of the Free SHS policy as a key part of the administration’s broader strategy to invest in human capital development and enhance opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
