A fire outbreak on the night of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, caused significant damage to two beachfront resorts in the Ellembelle District of Ghana’s Western Region—Vision Beach Resort and Maaha Beach Resort.

According to DO2 Mark Hamilton, the District Fire Commander, the blaze originated around 7 p.m. at the Vision Beach Resort and was quickly intensified by strong winds, spreading across to the nearby Maaha Beach Resort. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to prevent the fire from escalating further.

At Vision Beach Resort, the fire completely destroyed 15 rooms, along with the kitchen and reception area. At Maaha Beach Resort, 18 rooms were affected, eight of which were entirely gutted. “The affected structures at Maaha were mostly wooden with thatch roofing, which contributed to the spread,” DO2 Hamilton explained. “The remaining ten rooms, which were partially concrete, suffered less severe damage. Though air conditioners, furniture, and other contents were destroyed, the main structures remained intact.”

The alert was raised at approximately 7:59 p.m. by a staff member from Quantum Terminals Limited, who reported the incident to the fire service stationed at Ghana Gas.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have started in a staff changing room at Vision Beach Resort. While the exact cause is still under investigation, authorities suspect it could be due to an electrical fault or negligence. “We have a lead on what may have caused it, but we want to be certain before making a final statement,” said DO2 Hamilton. “We are not ruling out any possibilities.”

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported. The management of both resorts is currently assessing the extent of the damage and estimating financial losses.
