Ex-Starlets coach Laryea Kingston lands top job in USA

Former Black Starlets coach, Laryea Kingston, has landed a new coaching role at RPS Academies in the United States. The former Ghana international, who holds a UEFA License B coaching certificate, will be tasked with developing young football talents at the multi-sport academies located in Saint Lucie, Florida.

Kingston will collaborate with a team of coaches, leveraging his extensive experience to nurture future football stars. Speaking to Graphic Sports, Kingston shared his enthusiasm for the new challenge, though he admitted feeling disappointed about his departure from the Black Starlets during the U-17 WAFU B Championship held in Accra.

“I had other coaching offers, but this opportunity was the best fit for me,” he said.

Kingston revealed that RPS Academies had been monitoring his coaching journey for some time before offering him the role.

Confident in his new position, Kingston highlighted his familiarity with the Right to Dream model, which focuses on combining education with sports performance.

“I feel right at home in an environment that merges sports and academics, but with even greater responsibilities this time,” he added.

Kingston also emphasized the importance of expanding the academy’s talent pool, especially by scouting in Africa.

“We have some US-based African players here, but we need to widen our search. I plan to give them a scout in Africa, just like we did at Right to Dream, particularly in West Africa,” he said.

Laryea Kingston, the former coach of the Black Starlets, has officially joined RPS Academies in Saint Lucie, Florida, under a five-year contract starting September 1.

Kingston, who holds a UEFA License B coaching certificate, brings a rich background in football coaching, including his roles at Right to Dream Academy and as the head coach of the under-18 team at Danish club Nordsjaelland.

RPS Academies is renowned for its comprehensive sports program, offering training in football, tennis, golf, volleyball, and pickleball, alongside a strong focus on academic excellence.
