The Electoral Commission (EC) has outlined plans to conduct regular media briefings on Election Day, December 7, 2024, to ensure transparency and provide timely updates throughout the voting process.
The first briefing is set to begin at 9:00 am, followed by updates at 12:00 noon, 3:00 pm, and 6:00 pm. Starting from 9:00 pm, additional briefings will be held as election results start coming in from various regions. Each session is expected to last no longer than 30 minutes.
Accredited media personnel stationed at the National Collation Centre are invited to attend and cover these sessions. The briefings will also serve as an opportunity for the EC to respond to reports and provide clarifications on developments across the country.
Deputy EC Chairman for Operations, Samuel Tettey, announced the initiative in a statement issued on Thursday, December 5, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in election reporting.
He urged the media and the public to verify all election-related information with the EC before sharing it to prevent the circulation of misinformation.
“The Commission is committed to ensuring fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful elections. We look forward to working closely with the media to make the electoral process more accessible to the public,” Tettey stated.
The EC also provided a toll-free number, 0800 324 324, for the public to reach out with any queries or clarifications during the election period.
Through these measures, the EC aims to foster greater public trust and collaboration, ensuring the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
