The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to hold discussions with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the delayed parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Jean Mensa, the EC Chairperson, made this disclosure during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting at the Commission’s corporate office in Accra last Wednesday.

The meeting, which brought together political party representatives, civil society organizations, the media, and other stakeholders, aimed at fostering collaboration between the EC and its partners.

Mrs. Mensa stated that the upcoming engagement with the two major political parties would allow for thorough deliberation on the issue and ensure its resolution.

“We will have an in-depth meeting to discuss it,” she said. However, no specific date has been set for the discussions.

Background

The Ablekuma North Constituency election results have faced delays due to incomplete results sheets from some polling stations. Despite the EC’s continuous efforts to finalize the process, disputes and disagreements have caused multiple setbacks.

The process has been halted seven times, including on January 8, 2025, when the Returning Officer resigned following a dispute over the authentication of pink sheets.

The situation has heightened tensions in the constituency, leading to clashes between NDC and NPP supporters.

The NDC claims victory for its candidate, Ewurabena Aubyn, while the NPP insists its candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, emerged as the winner.

Amid the ongoing dispute, both parties have erected billboards thanking voters for their support.

Ablekuma North Constituency consists of 281 polling stations, with verified results from 278 stations. However, disagreements over the final three polling stations remain the primary source of contention between the two parties.
