Council of State Elections to be Held Nationwide Today

The Electoral Commission (EC) will oversee the nationwide election for the Council of State members today, February 11, 2025.

A total of 155 candidates, including 10 women from across all 16 regions, have submitted their nominations to contest in the elections. Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the regional coordinating councils in each regional capital.

Unlike regular public elections, the Council of State election is not open to general voters. Instead, it is conducted through an Electoral College, which consists of two representatives nominated by each District Assembly. In total, 522 individuals are expected to participate in today’s election.

Once voting concludes, the results will be announced at the respective voting centers.

The 30-member Council of State plays a crucial role as an advisory body to the President, Ministers, Parliament, and various public agencies, helping to ensure responsible governance and accountability.
