The Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, John Kwame Duodu, widely known as “Sir John,” has urged party members to take collective responsibility for the NPP’s disappointing performance in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Sir John called for an end to blame-shifting within the Party and encouraged a thorough self-examination to identify and rectify the internal challenges that contributed to their defeat.

Focus on Introspection

“Our loss in the 2024 General Election was due to our own mistakes,” Sir John stated. “It’s time for the Party to engage in honest self-reflection, acknowledge our shortcomings, and make the necessary changes as we prepare for the 2028 elections.”

He emphasized the importance of fostering unity within the Party, particularly among its leadership, and urged those in key roles during the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia administration to accept their share of the responsibility.

“Pointing fingers won’t solve anything. Growth comes from learning from our past mistakes and ensuring we don’t repeat them,” he added.

Warning Against Premature Campaigning

Sir John also expressed concern over the early declarations by some members vying for leadership roles in the Party.

“It is unwise for members, especially leaders, to focus on internal elections so soon after our defeat. Our priority should be healing and reorganizing the Party, not personal ambitions,” he said.

He warned that prioritizing leadership contests without addressing the reasons for their 2024 loss would hinder the Party’s ability to rebuild effectively.

Sir John commended the establishment of regional reconciliation committees, highlighting their role in resolving internal disputes and fostering unity within the NPP.

Applause for Dr. Bawumia’s Leadership

The NPP leader praised the Party’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his prompt concession of defeat in the presidential election, describing the gesture as a demonstration of leadership and patriotism.

“Dr. Bawumia’s decision to concede early was a courageous and commendable move that prioritized Ghana’s peace and stability,” Sir John remarked, urging other politicians to follow his example by placing national interest above personal ambitions.

Gratitude to Campaign Teams

Sir John expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Party’s campaign teams at all levels for their dedication and hard work during the elections.

“Your tireless efforts embodied the true spirit of the NPP, even in the face of adversity,” he said. “The loyalty and perseverance of our members are the backbone of this Party and will be critical in our efforts to rebuild and succeed in the future.”

Sir John concluded by encouraging all members to rally together, learn from the defeat, and work towards repositioning the NPP for a strong comeback in the 2028 elections.
